Weird week for fitness

I am doing the zero to 1 mile swimming program. http://ruthkazez.com/ZeroTo1mile.html

I am currently in week 5 which has me swimming about 0.6 miles nonstop.

Yesterday went to Lake Allatoona for some open water swimming practice. I felt strong through the 1000 yards, which took 20 minutes. Sighting needs work. Finished up with 4 x 100s although it was hard to judge distance so I just swam for 3 minute intervals. Ran in to some chop right at the finish. Solid effort but I think I need to rest my right
shoulder as it's twingy.

I have felt really uninspired this week. Rather flat I must say.

Renee bought a road bike yesterday and I know she's eager to get riding.  We are still dialing it in. She is nervous about the clipless pedals.

On Wednesday, did the 45-mile loop at White with Lisa Randall. I was feeling flat most of the ride and didn't eat enough for breakfast.
Thursday, I did a speed run workout at the Silver Comet during lunch break. I managed a 7:58 over 4 miles. Not too shabby.
Friday I rested because I thought I was going to enter the 1k Georgia Games Open Water Swim. Wellllll that didn't happen because my math was off. I didn't realize 1k is about 1100 yards, which I've never swam before. So I reconsidered and I'm glad I did.
Saturday Renee and I went to Lake Allatoona for a lake swim. I put in 1.2 miles and did a 1000 yard stretch in 20 min.  I should be able to swim a mile pretty soon.

Today I put in a bike/run brick at Blanket's Creek.  My rear wheel had a spoke pop and I was a little rusty on the trails plus it was slippery from all the rain.  Then I ran South loop and was putting in 11s and 12s. Pretty slow but I was tired and legs were HEAVY.

Now, I  must decide if I'm entering the Blue Ridge Tri on Sunday with a start time of 7am! Sheesh.

Dilemma for bad-assery

It's been a long year of hard training and racing, both on the bike and trail running.  Mentally I feel like a need a break at this point although I trained 39 hours in November, my 2nd highest total of the year and most of those hours were of high quality. Physically, I feel pretty fresh still.  I feel as though I could just train year around but know that I need some sort of rest period for next year's race season.  My training has remained fresh in part because I attained a road bike, which I've ridden about 12 hours so far.  It's been a huge boon to my training although I still need to get a proper bike fit done to alleviate neck and knee pain. The training book I'm reading recommends to take a 2-4 week Transition period to let my body and mind recover before moving on to next year's Base phase.  Question I'm pondering is when do I begin my Transition period...I feel like I'm in a great groove right now and I'd like to build up my Lactate thresh...

Day 3 and 4

Day 3 - hunger relatively in control. alcohol cravings declining Day 4 - thought of grain/cereal making me slightly sick at breakfast. thought about fasting until 3pm today but Renee made a delicious quiche for bfast. full after chicken salad.

MAF test results

MAF test #1 at Boling Park 8/6/16 Humid and warm. Went over 145 several times and up to 147.  Average was 143, 144, 144 for each mile. 1-mile intervals were 8:54, 10:24, 11:34 I found it difficult to stay below 146 and was surprised how often my HR alert went off. Breakfast was larabar, half kindbar, coconut oil. MAF test #2 at Boling Park 11/19/16 14-week interval Factors: Living with my 3 month old precious infant daughter for the past 3 months! Poor sleep and 30 mph headwinds.Temps in 60s.   MCT oil and egg ham muffins for bfast HR strap would not wake up until 2nd mile so I took miles 2,3,4 for the test HR went up to 147 and 148 several times and it was difficult to keep it at 145 but I am not going to adjust my times due to the headwinds, which pretty much evens everything out or close enough. 1-mile intervals 8:18, 8:45,8:49,8:57 HR per lap 143, 146, 146, 146 Note, my HR strap didn’t work until after the 1st half-mile so I’m ...
